Guitar Program
Guitar Program
The Guitar class at John W. Moore Middle School is a quarterly class that is designed to teach students the basic beginning to intermediate level skills of music note reading and music performance on the guitar. Students will learn how to play chords, scales, and short songs that are designed to develop the finger dexterity of changing between chords or individual notes simultaneously.
Students of all ability levels from beginning to advanced are encouraged to sign up for the class and the course will be geared to meet the needs of each individual student in the class.
The school is equipped with 20 guitar instruments of two different types of acoustic guitars, made of either nylon string or steel string materials. Students may have an opportunity to play on an electric guitar as time permits (only at the end of the quarter). Students are encouraged to have their own guitar at home for practice, but it is not a requirement. Unfortunately, there are no guitars that can be checked out from the school for home use. Students that own a guitar are welcome to bring their own acoustic guitars to school for use in class, if they would like to do so.
There are no formal concerts for guitar class, but students should be prepared to participate in individual and group practice on the guitar every day in the classroom. Students will be asked to record individual performances as the class progresses.
